Overcoming Critical Limitations in Conventional Magnetic Separation Technology for Small-Volume Applications

A common problem with conventional magnetic racks is the spread and smearing of beads after separation, resulting in diffuse layers instead of compact pellets for retrieval, which can lead to the loss of beads and critical signals during operations.

The consequences are especially severe in workflows involving minimal input material. Traditional standard magnetic racks often fail when processing small-volume or rare-cell samples. In this condition, magnetic beads tend to spread along the tube wall, making them difficult to retrieve — especially in sub-microvolume specimens. The samples may suffer from bead loss, resulting in a low recovery rate and potentially missing critical weak signals.
